Christchurch is a city with great charm

Described as the most English city in New Zealand, Christchurch, has a relaxed atmosphere. But, with the river Avon running through it, this city of bridges, parks and churches, centred around the imposing cathedral which sits in a large, spacious square, has a charm all its own. The best way to see the city is by taking the tram. Start in Cathedral Square, and get on and off as the tram stops at the Museum, Botanic Gardens and New Regent Street – the latter lined with boutiques and restaurants.

Christchurch accommodation includes Bella Vista Motel and Apartments in Bealey Avenue, and City Apartments and At The West Fitzroy in Armagh Street. Popular B&Bs include Cave Rock Guest House, Lavender Towers, and Historic Hambledon, while Highway Inn, at Harewood, is a great choice for budget travellers. Tui Lodge Motel, Chardonnay Motor Lodge and and Abel Tasman Motor Lodge are all popular motels.
