Glen Roydon Lodge

Glenorchy is situated at the head of Lake Wakatipu, a scenic 35-40 minute drive from Queenstown, the internationally famous premier New Zealand tourist destination. The road is now sealed the entire route. Access can also be gained by plane or helicopter. It is only 10 minutes away from the Caples and Greenstone tracks, which lead to the Routeburn Track at Lake McKellar (see map).
A 20 minute drive takes you to the Routeburn shelter, the end or beginning of the Routeburn Track. For experienced trampers there is the 3-4 day round trip up the Dart River returning down the Rees Track and river. This circumnavigates the magnificent Mt Earnslaw and can include fishing, fun yakking or jet boat riding.
Expert fly fishing guides, boat and vehicle are available November-April in the rivers -- open season for the lake. Teem trout and salmon can be fished for in the lake and at Diamond Lake on the 10 minutes drive to Paradise. You pass through ancient beech forest, home to bush canaries, fantails, parakeets, kaka and three species of deer.
Between October and April, DOC huts on the tracks are well serviced, most with gas cooking and mattresses. The Glen-Roydon Outdoor Lodge was built to meet the growing demand for quality accommodation brought on by the growing awareness of Glenorchy. Ranging from share facility rooms through to "up market" ensuite rooms, the Lodge can accommodate up to twenty guests.
