Wilson House
The History of Wilson House
Built in 1904 on the outskirts of the rural township of Warkworth, New Zealand's first reinforced concrete house was home to the family of Wilson Cement Work's manager.
The works ruins nearby, are also under protection of the Historic Places Trust as a significant centre of New Zealand's industrial development, though are more a romantic reminder to many of an ancient English Priory.
A great place for photos. .
Changes come fast, and in 1929 the works were closed down, Wilson's becoming "Portland Cement" based in Whangarei. Wilson House passed through many hands and slowly deteriorated, being finally abandoned in the 1960's. Left derelict for over 20 years, it was finally cleared of creepers and trees and then slowly renovated.
