In the early 1990’s, when Homestay in Taupo was a new idea, hosts Lyn and Richard designed their home and garden to provide something special in B&B accommodation.
Years of building, tree planting, gardening and world travel has resulted in Richlyn Country Homestay, a place where Lyn and Richard provide the comfort, quality and service that they look for and often do not find when traveling.
At Richlyn Country Homestay all guests are treated as friends. The coffee on arrival and the morning and afternoon teas are complementary, these times are opportunities to talk; exchange travel experiences and become informed about country and culture.
After dining in one of the many world class Taupo restaurants, impromptu evening conversations in the comfortable Richlyn sitting room, over a glass of wine, often just happen. It is a wonderful way of preparing for peaceful restful sleep in secure, safe surroundings.

Breakfast is often served outside and the time is flexible. Sleeping in is not unusual and a sure sign that work stressed guests are benefiting from the relaxing and re-energising surroundings provided by wonderful beds and the beautiful peaceful gardens.
Richlyn breakfasts are something to remember. Orange juice, tea, fresh coffee, milk, a selection of cereals, fresh fruit platter or fruit salad, fresh home made bread, (Richards’s recipe), bacon & eggs, mushrooms & tomatoes. You won’t need to eat again until dinnertime.
Directions to Richlyn Homestay
From Taupo:Drive south-east on State Highway 5 (towards Napier) for six kilometres. Turn right into Caroline Drive (Bonshaw Park) and go two kilometres to Mark Wynd turn-off on the left. The first drive on left, on Mark Wynd, is 'RICHLYN'.
Richlyn is only one hour from the mountains for skiing, tramping and sightseeing and ten minutes to Lake Taupo for fishing, water sports and relaxation.
