Amber House has crystal chandeliers and ceilings more than 11 feet high downstairs while upstairs rooms enjoy views across the clear, blue-green waters of Tasman Bay to the oft snow-topped peaks of the Arthur Range or, in the other direction, to the geographical Centre of New Zealand a few hundred metres distant.
When our home was built in the latter part of the reign of Queen Victoria, it stood on the shore of Nelson's Haven, with Weka running up and down the strand.
Now the vibrant and exciting city of Nelson has grown up and outwards around Amber House, but our family home remains a peaceful and helpful haven for travellers with all of our city's attractions just a short stroll away.
Your young hosts, Adam and Anne Amber, were born and schooled in Nelson and have each been round the world many times before permanently settling back in Godzone. We would love to chat with you and give you those insider tips to make your stay more pleasurable!

Directions to Amber House - at the centre!™
All long distance buses, local services (and the red, double decker, City Tour buses) stop right outside the rose garden of Amber House.Nelson Airport is 7km away (a Shuttle Bus meets each flight and charges approximately NZ$12.00 per passenger to Amber House).
Driving Directions: take State Highway 6 to the Trafalgar Street (Nelson's main shopping street) roundabout, then 1st road on left (Wainui St) becomes Weka Street after 260 metres and 46 Weka Street is then the large, white, two storey house on the right after another 480m.
Directions from the DOC Nelson Region Visitor's Centre on foot or driving: Exit the centre. Turn right and right again into Trafalgar Street. Head north for 400m (towards SH6) and take the 4th turn right into Wainui St which becomes Weka Street after 260m.

Units / rooms: You can book one of 3 Bedrooms available to guests in our 7 room 1897 Villa - but we don't host more than 4 house guests at one time.

Beds: All rooms have TWO Queen-size beds
Meals: Guests may help themselves freely to fruit (depending on season we may have spray-free apples, oranges, pears, plums, cherries, apricots, grapes, strawberries, mangoes, kiwi fruit and bananas), walnuts (we've the oldest English Walnut tree in the South Island), biscuits, cakes, breads (and other baked products depending on what Mila has been cooking), coffee, tea (perhaps organic Castlereigh, Darjeeling, Camomile, Lemon & Ginger, cranberry, raspberry & elderflower or caffeine-free herbal), fruit juice (typically orange but sometimes pineapple or boysenberry), spring water, cocoa, milo, hot chocolate, milk, breakfast cereals (muesli, ricepops, cornflakes, weetbix, etc), honeys, marmalades, jams, butters (dairy and peanut), chutneys, marmite or vegemite from the guest dining room in Amber House and eat and drink there any time. We can provide packed lunches, picnic hampers, etc, on request.

Features and services: If you'd like a FREE COOKED BREAKFAST while staying at Amber House, please tell Mila exactly what you wish to eat and how you'd like it cooked the afternoon before and also agree that it be served at either 08:10hrs or 09:30hrs (or another time by persuasion). Mila knows Irish, Italian, Vizayan, Fukien and a little Swiss cuisine but is eager and interested to learn new dishes...
