Dalmore Deer Farm

Your hosts Clive and Anne Paterson extend a warm welcome to you from the heart of Western Southland.

We are a couple in our fifties who enjoy sharing our sheep and deer farming lifestyle with other people. We have been hosting international and domestic visitors since the 1980's. Our property has been farmed by the Paterson family for over 100 years. Our interests include trout fishing, nature, reading, genealogy, gardening, cooking and quilting.

Our Property:

We live at Scott's Gap, a small farming district near Otautau, 64km north-west of Invercargill. Our farm of 280 hectares stocks 1000 Coopworth sheep and 1100 Red deer as well as a small flock of the rare Arapawa Island black merino sheep.

Accommodation:

Our warm and comfortable home is set in a large attractive country garden. Families are most welcome but parents at all times must be responsible for their children.

We have two twin and one single guest rooms with shared guest bathroom facilities. Electric blankets are fitted on all beds. Extra bedding is available.

We have one house cat. Smoking is permitted outside only. Internet facilities are available.

Meals are flexible with special diets catered for by prior arrangement. Homemade muesli and jams, preserved or fresh fruits in season, and free range eggs feature on the breakfast menu. Farm raised meats are served with garden fresh vegetables. Delicious desserts follow dinner. During the summer months BBQ meals are popular. Relax and soak up the ambience of the country living in our well-appointed conservatory looking out over rich green pastures to the native beech tree clad hills nearby.

Activities Available:

Experience a guided explanatory tour of our farm. Assist or observe us with seasonal activities eg. lambing (Sept), hay harvesting (Dec - Feb), shearing sheep (Nov - Jan) and stock shifting (All year)

Adult farm footwear is provided.

Clive can accompany you and offer advice on the excellent fly and spin fishing available in nearby rivers and streams. We also offer guided horse trekking on a large sheep station in the area by prior arrangement (Nov - April inclusive)

For those who crave adventure and a wilderness experience, an exhilarating jet boat ride down the Wairaurahiri River to the south coast of Fiordland is a must.

Our property is within easy driving distance of the Fiordland World Heritage Park and Tuatapere, the gateway to the Hump Ridge walking track
