Orongo Bay Holiday Park
Your ideal base for all Bay of Islands attractions, including viewing and swimming with Dolphins and the Hole in the Rock. All Bay of Islands cruises depart from the Russell Wharf.
Enjoy the unique charm of historic Russell together with its scenic coastal peninsula setting. The Russell local area offers a variety of beaches, tours, fishing trips and independent walks together with renowned heritage sites.
Russell is a vibrant cosmopolitan community and a variety of galleries (some staffed by local artists) cafes and restaurants together with a couple of atmospheric local pubs and a specialty organic/locally grown food store are on offer.
Orongo Bay Holiday Park overlooks Orongo Bay and is only a few minutes by car to the historic Russell township and boat ramps.
Surrounded by native forest, Orongo Bay Holiday Park is within a Kiwi and Weka protection zone. Enjoy waking to the sound of New Zealand native birds including Tuis, Fantails, Wood Pigeons, Wekas, Kingfishers, Herons and Pukekos.

Directions to Orongo Bay Holiday Park
The two major northbound routes are:1. Via Whakapara/Russell Road. Follow State Highway 1 out of Whangarei heading north. 15 minutes north of Whangarei turn first right after the Whakapara BP service station. This stunning coastal road offers spectacular views of unspoiled beaches and native forests. After approximately an hour you arrive at Orongo Bay. Turn right at the T intersection and we are situated on the first bend, on the right.
2. Follow State Highway out of Whangarei heading north. Ten to fiteen minutes after Kawa Kawa is the turnoff to the right to Opua. At the bottom of the hill turn left for the vehicle ferry. There are two of them operating continually, usually between 7am and 10 pm and bookings are not required. After driving off the ferry along the road to Russell for approximately 6 minutes we are situated on the first right hand bend after the passing the old Russell Road on the right.
