Otawa Lodge

Nestled in the hills a short drive from Woodville is a hidden jewel known as Otawa Lodge, a magnificent historic homestead built in 1914. It is considered one of the finest examples of Art Nouveau architecture in New Zealand. The ceilings and walls of the large sitting room, dining room and entrance hall are adorned with intricate plasterwork unique to this house, and are set above rimu panelling. Every room boasts stained, leaded glass windows.

Guests have exclusive use of the large sitting room, library and verandahs. The octagonal panelled library is perfect for relaxing with a book or playing a game of chess. We specialise in cooking innovative fish dishes and organic homegrown ingredients. Two luxurious bedrooms with period furnishings provide a restful end to the day. Each bedroom has its own private bathroom. Hot water radiators throughout the house ensure comfort in all seasons.

Surrounding the house are two acres of garden full of native trees and mature shrubs where tuis, wood pigeons and bellbirds sing. The house is set on 80 acres of rolling hills and there are spectacular views of the Ruahine Ranges, hill walks and picnic sites by the creek. Across the road is Pattisons Bush Reserve fifteen acres of native bush. Some of the best fishing in the North Island is minutes away!

It is the only accommodation of its type in the Tararua Region and provides a warm, welcoming and peaceful base from which to explore all that this area has to offer.
