The Gatehouse
The Gatehouse Bed and Breakfast is part of a larger property built in 1929 by well-known architect, Natusch, and based upon another home in Cornwall, England. Just twenty minutes from Wellington city centre, we are located near the harbour (the beach is just a two minute stroll), and the Interisland Ferry terminal is fifteen minutes by car.
The Gatehouse is completely detached from the Main House, and offers peace and privacy for the discerning traveller. The cottage was once a coach-house and later provided accommodation for the housekeeper and gardener until, in 2001, it was transformed into a bed and breakfast retreat.
The Gatehouse has been designed to accommodate couples and business travellers and there is also the option of a double sofa bed in the lounge for an extra guest.
Breakfast is delivered at a time to suit our guests, and consists of fresh in-season, or home preserved fruit, yoghurt, cereals and a range of breads.
The cooked course varies - Eggs Benedict, Sweet Corn Fritters with bacon, English style breakfast or other depending on availability of fresh ingredients. Where possible, we use locally grown produce, bacon cured by our own local butcher and always free-range eggs.
Jams, jellies, marmalade, and the lemon cordial are made here, some using fruit from our garden, and overflow from friends and neighbours.
To finish, an espresso, latte or English tea.

Directions to The Gatehouse
From Wellington Airport or the city centre:From the airport, look for Wellington City and Motorway signs. Once on State Highway 1,follow the signs for Lower Hutt and Petone (SH2). * Take the left exit for Petone, and then stay in the right-hand lane. This will put you on the Petone Esplanade with the harbour on your right. Stay on this road and follow the signs for Seaview, Eastbourne or Eastern Bays. © Once past the wharf at Point Howard, Lowry Bay is the next big bay round. Turn left into Cheviot Road. We are on the corner of Lady Bell Grove and Cheviot Rd.
